Can we change? The role of skillful awareness

In our journey toward personal change, meditation, and mindfulness are crucial in helping us develop the mental clarity that results in what I call "Skillful Awareness." Skillful awareness is different than conventional mindfulness. Instead, it's a type of systemic moral attunement in which a person senses into themself, others, and situations with acceptance and care and a wish for a higher good. Skillful awareness is what jump-starts a virtuous and sometimes healing change process. With it, we can begin to grow beyond all entrenched self-defeating patterns.

By cultivating skillful awareness, we open a space to pause, reflect, and choose healthier responses. This inner and outer attunement is vital to personal growth and change.

Our mind-body systems are filled with habitual narratives that often run on autopilot. Skillful awareness sees them for what they are stories that are keeping us stuck. Waking up to that reality enables us to shift our attention, open our awareness, and stay present. In time, this practice rewires our brains. This rewiring, known as neuroplasticity, is essential to and, indeed, the precursor of any lasting change.

Becoming SkillfullyAware is the art of deepening our connection to ourselves, others, and the world. It helps us recognize the momentary shifts in our physical and emotional states. In the end, we grow into better versions of ourselves.

I've witnessed the transformative power of skillful awareness on countless individuals, from business professionals to those struggling with stress-related illnesses. By integrating it into their daily lives, they cultivated resilience, self-compassion, and the ability to adapt to challenges. It works that way for everyone.

In tomorrow's essay, we will explore the importance of setting realistic goals and embracing small victories in our journey toward personal change. Remember, the road to transformation begins with a single step toward being more SkillfullyAware.

Wishing you abundant health, happiness, and prosperity,

Mark
